Programs

Author Visits

The PTO funds the school’s author visit each year.  Last year, the students got to meet author Jordan Sonnenblick, a popular teen author, and Brendan Mull, author of the hugely popular "Fablehaven" series.  We also provide food for the luncheon with the author and interested students.

Basketball Fundraiser

An annual event, the Basketball Fundraiser is a fun-filled night where the faculty plays the student basketball teams in an entertaining competition. Each classroom puts together a themed basket like those at PLE/AGIS Country Christmas. Tickets are sold as chances and the baskets are raffled off the night of the event. The money raised is shared between the school and the PTO to benefit the kids at FSEMS.

Parent Volunteers are needed in several ways. Basket Coordinators are needed for each homeroom to collect donations and assemble a gift basket, based on the theme that the students & their teacher select. Volunteers are also needed to help oversee the basket preview days for the students, as well as helping with the baskets and concessions the night of the event. For more information or to volunteer contact Annette Lewin at annette.lewin@comcast.net.

Bingo Night

A fun-filled evening of Bingo, with lots of great prizes! Watch for more information.

Box Tops for Education

The PTO coordinates the General Mills Box Tops for Education program for the school. We collect the Boxtop cutouts which are located on such products as Pillsbury, Hefty, Ziploc, Kimberly Clark Products and of course General Mills cereal boxes. They in turn reimburse us 10 cents for each cutout. While this doesn’t sound like much, it adds up! In the 2012/2013 school year, we made over $1400! It’s an easy and free way to help out the school!

Each homeroom has a collection box for your student to drop the box tops in.  There is also a collection box in the office – just be sure to put them in an envelope with your student’s homeroom name since there will be a contest for the top homerooms in each grade.

If you shop online, the Box Tops program also offers reimbursements to the school for your purchases. You must first go towww.boxtops4education.comto register. Up to 8% of each qualifying purchase is donated to our school! Also, if you shop at Target, you can designate FSEMS as recipient in Target’s Take Charge of Education program.

Hershey Park Tickets

We sell discounted tickets to Hershey Park in the spring as a cost savings opportunity for the parents. Look for more information on our web page coming out in March.

Luncheons

We host a Holiday Staff Luncheon in December and a Staff Appreciation Luncheon in the spring as our way of showing the staff how much we appreciate all that they do!  Homemade dishes and goodies are sent in from parent volunteers.

Run the Grove 5K

This is the 3rd annual Run The Grove 5K, which the PTO sponsors as a fundraiser as well as a fun community event. The race will be October 19 at 9 a.m. at Avon Grove High School. It is professionally managed with chip timing, and is run on closed roads around FSEMS & AGHS, ending in the high school stadium. All finishers receive a t-shirt and awards are given for top finishers in various age categories. Volunteers are needed to help with Registration,  Awards,  Fun Run, Sponsorship,  Advertising,  Traffic Control,  Food, and more.

Student Motivators

The school sets a goal each year for the student body to read a certain number of books and if the goal is met, the PTO rewards the students with a DJ & ice cream party during lunch on the last full day of school. The students have been allowed to count two of their summer reading assignment books towards the goal. The reading specialist, Ms. Ciancia, and the language arts teachers organize and keep track of the reading effort. Hendrix Orthodontics has generously funded the party for us.
